From America to Ghana: One Man’s Journey to Empower His Community
Changing the Narrative of ICT Learning in Basic Schools
Meet Proff Double Double, the Ghanaian native committed to making a difference in his hometown, Agbozume, in the Volta Region of Ghana. Mr. Agbeko Odione Kumordzie spent several years in America pursuing his education and career.
However, the call to give back to his community proved too strong to ignore. Proff returned to his hometown in Ghana with a mission: to build a computer lab for kids.
Growing up in Ghana, Prof Double Double faced numerous challenges in accessing quality education, particularly in the field of technology. He remembers the excitement of getting his first computer and the opportunities it opened up for him. Now, he wants to provide the same opportunities to the children in his community as he believes no child should learn computers on the black board.
Agbeko’s vision is to create a state-of-the-art computer lab where kids can learn essential skills in programming, coding, and digital literacy. He believes that by empowering the younger generation with technology, he can help bridge the gap between Ghana and the rest of the world.
With the help of donations and support from friends and family, Prof has successfully constructed the computer lab. He has also partnered with local educators to develop a curriculum that will provide kids with hands-on experience in computer programming and software development. To honour his late mother, the facility was named after his mother who was his rock whiles he was growing up.
The Charity Galley ICT Lab is more than just a computer lab – it’s a symbol of hope and opportunity for the children in his community. He believes that by investing in the younger generation, he can help create a brighter future for Ghana.
