Another Win For HHFT As CEO And Staff Awarded For Excellence

As part of the events climaxing Black History Month celebrations in Basingstoke, an occasion recently took place at the Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke on the 25th of October, 2024. In a colourful and star-studded event organised by Kikoi connections and supported by the local Council, dubbed the Community Achievers’ Award Night, more than four staff from the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust were awarded for their immense contributions to the Black and Asian minority ethnic communities working in the Trust’s three hospitals.

Across the three sites of the Trust, including Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital (BNHH), the Royal Hampshire County Hospital (RHCH, Winchester) and the Andover War Memorial Hospital (AWMH, Andover), one cannot help but notice the hardworking staff who are from Black Asian and Minority Ethnic origin.

The Trust has strong policies that help with inclusion and diversity and to champion this great cause, the BAME community has champions who are always on-site to advocate for its members.
Received on behalf of HHFT (by Fiona Watton), the hospital’s CEO, Madam Alex Whitfield and the Team were awarded in recognition of their outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. The citation read, “Your initiative- active recruitment, diverse interview panels, reverse mentoring and champion networks have created a more equitable workplace. Signing the Race at Work Charter and showcasing BAME colleagues reflect your dedication to long-term positive change.”

The awardees were Natacha Jonas a Sister of the C2 ward, Clemetinah Phiri and Vanessa of the education team, George Mathews (physiotherapist) and others who made various contributions to help new staff of BAME origin integrate properly into the HHFT community.

Among the other awardees, two of them were from the Basingstoke African and Caribbean Catholic Association (BACCA), who were exceptional for similar reasons in their area of work and religious life. Also in attendance were the former MP for Basingstoke, Hon. Maria Miller, the Basingstoke and Dean Mayor, Cllr Dan Putty and other reputable personalities.
